Women’s Golfer of the Week – No. 1

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Jessica Schiele of Oklahoma City has been tabbed the first NAIA National Women’s Golfer of the Week for the 2012 spring season, the national office announced Wednesday. Schiele was selected based on her performances from March 12 – 18 and was chosen out of a pool of conference/independent/unaffiliated group golfer of the week selections.

Schiele more than held her own amongst a field that included several NCAA Division I competitors at the Southern Mississippi Lady Eagle Invitational held March 12 – 13 in Hattiesburg, Miss. The junior North East Lincolnshire, England, native turned in a 72-73–145 and collected seven birdies in the event as she finished just one stroke behind medalist winner Brandi Rodriguez of NCAA Division I Southern Mississippi. Schiele fuled the top-ranked Stars to a fifth-place finish (311-312–623), 14 strokes behind first-place Troy University (Ala.).

The next Women’s Golfer of the Week will be announced on March 28.
