KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Anastasiia Baranova of Oklahoma Baptist has been named the NAIA Women’s Tennis Player of the Week, the national office announced Wednesday. Baranova was selected based on her performances from March 31-April 6 and was chosen out of a pool of conference, independent and unaffiliated grouping award winners.
Baranova, a sophomore from Sochi, Russia, capped a 6-0 week for the No. 10-ranked Bison with wins at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles over NCAA Division I Oral Roberts (Okla.). The Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s (ITA) No. 9-rated singles player handled unranked NAIA opponents Kaela Doyle of John Brown (Ark.) (6-0, 6-1) and Sara Peck of Southwestern (Kan.) (6-0, 6-0) before taking down Haley Martin of Oral Roberts (4-6, 7-6, 7-6 (10-3)). Along with partner Kateryna Shkot, Baranova also swept her doubles opponents from John Brown (8-3), Southwestern (8-0) and Oral Roberts (8-1). Baranova and Shkot are the ITA’s No. 5-ranked doubles team in the NAIA and boast a 17-1 record on the season.
For the year, Baranova owns a 16-2 record in singles play.
