2013 NAIA Men's Tennis Coaches' Top 25 - No. 2

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - For the third-straight week, Embry-Riddle (Fla.) has claimed the No. 1 ranking in the 2013 NAIA Men's Tennis Coaches' Top 25 Poll, the national office announced Tuesday. The Eagles collected 7-of-12 first-place votes and tallied 308 points to earn the No.1 spot.
Embry-Riddle is 6-1 this season and won its last three matches, all in conference matches, against Northwood (Fla.) (7-2), Ave Maria (Fla.) (9-0) and SCAD Savannah (Ga.) (9-0).
Auburn Montgomery (Ala.) received one first-place vote and notched 299 points to come in at No. 2. The Warhwaks are 5-1 on the season. Receiving four first-place votes and holding steady at No. 3 is Vanguard (Calif.) with 298 points. The Lions are a perfect 9-0 on the season. Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) comes in at No. 4, notching 281 points. Rounding out the top five is No. 5 Westmont (Calif.) with 267.
Oklahoma Baptist makes the biggest jump this week, improving five spots from No. 21 to No. 16. The Bison defeated then-No. 17 McPherson (Kan.), 6-3, on March 2. Also on March 2, Oklahoma Baptist defeated NCAA Division II Emporia State (Kan.), 7-2.
Joining the Top 25 this week is No. 18 Northwood (Fla.) and No. 24 Bethel (Tenn.). Northwood defeated Webber International (Fla.) 8-1 on Saturday. The Seahawks followed with their third victory in a row on Sunday with a 9-0 victory over NCAA Division II St. Vincent (Pa.). Bethel joins the Top 25 after improving to 6-0 on the season. The Wildcats recently defeated SCAD Atlanta (Ga.), 8-1, on March 1st and followed with another 8-1 when two days later against St. Francis (Ill.).
Falling out of the Top 25 is Warner (Fla.) (No.16) and Webber International (No. 20).
Eleven of the 13 conferences/independents/unaffiliated groupings are represented throughout the Top 25, led by the Mid-South Conference with five teams. Southern States Athletic Conference follows with four teams.
The poll was voted upon by a panel of head coaches representing each of the conferences/independents/unaffiliated groupings. The third regular-season poll will be announced on March19.
Notes: (All information as of the 2000 season) Auburn Montgomery's (Ala.) 27 top mentions are the most all-time, followed by former-NAIA members Azusa Pacific (Calif.) and Fresno Pacific (Calif.), who each have 23 ... Oklahoma City has appeared at No. 1 a total of 13 times, while SCAD Savannah (Ga.) has topped the poll twice ... Fresno Pacific became the sixth preseason top selection to go on to win the national title in 2011 ... Auburn Montgomery was the last to accomplish the feat prior to Fresno Pacific, as the Warhawks did so in 2008 ... This is the second time Embry-Riddle (Fla.) has been ranked No. 1... The top four remain the same as the preseason poll.
