KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Evans Kirwa of Embry-Riddle (Fla.) has been named the NAIA National Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week, the national office announced Wednesday. Kirwa, who received the NAIA's weekly award twice last season, was selected based on his performance from Sept. 10 - 16 and was chosen out of a pool of conference/independent runner of the week selections.

Kirwa, a senior from Eldoret, Kenya, posted Embry-Riddle's third fastest time in program history en route to a second-place finish out 174 runners at the Mountain Dew Invitational (Fla.) on Sept. 15. Kirwa, who covered the 8K course in 24:14.53, finished second only to 2012 United States Olympic Trial marathon participant Jeremy Criscione. As a team, the Eagles finished third overall, trailing only NCAA Division I Florida and North Florida.

In his only other event this season, Kirwa claimed his second-straight individual crown at the University of South Florida (USF) Invitational on Sept. 7 with a time of 25:45.07.
