2013 NAIA Women's Tennis Coaches' Top 25 - No. 2

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - William Carey (Miss.) sits atop the second edition of the 2013 NAIA Women's Tennis Coaches' Top 25, the national office announced Tuesday. The Lady Crusaders received 10-of-13 first-place votes for 341 points to secure the top spot. This is the first time since 2011 someone other than Auburn Montgomery (Ala.) sits atop the poll.
Making the biggest jump in the poll this week is William Carey, from No. 7 to No. 1. On March 1, the Lady Crusaders defeated then-No. 1 Auburn Montgomery, 5-4. The win improved William Carey's record to 3-3 on the season. They return to action on March 8 with a match against Loyola (La.).
Falling to No. 2 is Auburn Montgomery with 329 points. Brenau (Ga) comes in at No. 3 with 318 points. Receiving two first-place votes and coming in at No. 4 is SCAD Savannah (Ga.) with 309 points. No. 5 Lindsey Wilson rounds out the top five with 302. The last first-place vote went to No. 6 Westmont (Calif.)
Joining the polls this week is No. 16 Costal Georgia, No. 16 Northwood (Fla.) and No. 25 Milligan (Tenn.). Coastal Georgia defeated then-No. 15 Lee (Tenn.), 7-2, on March 2. Northwood defeated Webber International, 9-0, on March 2 to improve to 4-1 on the season. Milligan hasn't played since Feb. 27, but will return to action on March 10 against Georgetown (Ky.).
Falling from the Top 25 was Martin Methodist (Tenn.) (No.23), Bethel (Kan.) (No.24) and Davenport (Mich.) (No. 25).
Ten of the 13 conferences/independents/unaffiliated groupings are represented in the poll with the Southern States Athletic Conference leading all leagues with six Top 25 members: William Carey, Auburn Montgomery, Brenau, Coastal Georgia, No. 18 Lee and No. 24 Belhaven (Miss.).
The poll was voted upon by a panel of head coaches representing each of the conferences/independents/unaffiliated groupings. The first regular-season poll will be announced on March. 19.
Notes: (All information as of the 2000 season) Auburn Montgomery (Ala.) has been ranked No. 1 appearances to 69 times... Brenau (Ga.) is next closest with 10 No. 1 rankings, followed by former-NAIA member Fresno Pacific (Calif.) with eight, former- NAIA member Shorter (Ga.) with three and Northwood (Fla.) with two ... Auburn Montgomery topped each poll from Feb. 11, 2004, to May 1, 2010, a span of 47-straight No. 1 rankings, which is an NAIA record ... The next closest streak is just eight by Fresno Pacific, which garnered the top selection in all eight polls in 2011 ... Northwood gained its only two No. 1 rankings in school history in 2003 when it went on to win the national championship ... Auburn Montgomery has been ranked in the top five since, Feb. 11, 2004.
