KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Nathan Martinet of Fresno Pacific (Calif.) has been named the final NAIA Men's Tennis Player of the Week for the 2012 season, the national office announced Wednesday. Martinet was selected based on his performances from April 23 – 29 and was chosen out of a pool of conference/independent/unaffiliated group player of the week selections. The honor is the second such award in the career of Martinet, who also received Player of the Week on April 6, 2011.
The sophomore native of Pau, France, trumped a loaded 32-player singles field at the Ojai Tournament held April 27 – 29 in Ojai, Calif. Martinet, who entered the event unseeded, won five matches in three days, all in straight sets. His most impressive wins came over fourth-seeded Bryan Cox (6-4, 6-2) of Westmont (Calif.) and over teammate and top-seeded Xavier Smith (6-3, 6-3) in the championship match.
