KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Idris Ibn Idris of Bethany (Kan.) has been named the NAIA National Division II Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, the national office announced Tuesday. Idris was selected based on his performances from Jan. 20 - 26 and was chosen out of a pool of conference and independent award winners.
Idris, a 6-foot-5 senior guard from San Diego, Calif., set the Swedes single-game scoring record with 46 points in the 112-77 win over Bethel (Kan.) on Jan. 22. He shot 17-for-24 (.708) from the field, including 6-of-8 (.750) from 3-point range, to set the milestone. He also posted seven rebounds, five assists and four steals. On Jan. 25, Idris compiled 29 points and nine rebounds in a five-point loss to Sterling (Kan.). On the week, he averaged 37.5 points, 8.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 2.5 steals.
In NAIA statistical rankings, Idris stands No. 1 in 3-point field percentage (.513), No. 2 in scoring (28.2) and 24th in field goal percentage (.576). On the year, Idris has reach 10-or-more points in all 21 games.
