KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Opposite hitter Ingrid Carmona of California Baptist has been named NAIA Volleyball National Player of the Week, the national office announced Tuesday. Carmona was selected based on her performances from Nov. 1-7 and was chosen out of a pool of conference player of the week selections among 26 conference/independent/unaffiliated groupings.
Carmona put together double-digit kills in matches against The Master’s (Calif.) and No. 3 Fresno Pacific (Calif.). The most impressive of her numbers came at the expense of third-ranked Fresno Pacific in the NAIA Match of the Week, as the Lancers pulled together a 26-24, 25-16, 25-17 sweep on Nov. 6. Carmona picked up 20 kills and hit .421 to help California Baptist end Fresno Pacific’s 122-match home winning streak.
The 5-11 sophomore from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, hit .299 and averaged 5.00 kills per set for the week.
Carmona, who was an NAIA First-Team All-American last year, leads the Lancers with 430 kills and is 10th in the NAIA with her 4.34 kills per set.
