KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Will Monsour of Belhaven (Miss.) has been named the NAIA National Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week and Henry Moody of Texas at Brownsville has been tabbed National Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week, the national office announced Tuesday. Monsour and Moody are the first honorees of the 2012 season and were selected based on their performances from Aug. 27 - Sept. 2 and were chosen out of a pool of conference/independent/unaffiliated groupings.
Monsour, a 6-foot, junior forward from Shreveport, La., posted a pair of two-goal matches in two wins last week for the Blazers. In the 2-1 win over SCAD Savannah (Ga.) on Aug. 31, Monsour netted the game-winner in the 89th minute on a break-away. One day later, he finished with four points (two goals, two assists) in the 5-0 victory over Tennessee Wesleyan.
In national statistical rankings, Monsour is first in goals (9), points (21) and game-winning goals (3).
Moody, a 6-foot-3, sophomore defender from Toronto, Canada, was part of a spectacular defensive effort at No. 2 Baker (Kan.) on Sept. 2. In the 2-0 win over the Wildcats, the Texas at Brownsville defense held Baker to four shots on goal. In the 1-1 draw at Oklahoma City on Aug. 31, the defense was impressive limiting the Star offense to five shots on goal.
