KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Francisco Charters of Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) has been named NAIA Men's Tennis Player of the Week, the national office announced Wednesday. Charters was selected based on his performances from April 1 – 7 and was chosen out of a pool of conference/independent/unaffiliated group player of the week selections.
Charters, a freshman from Lisbon, Portugal, was 4-0 in No. 4 singles and 5-0 in No. 1 doubles. Charters helped the Blue Raiders defeat Martin Methodist (Tenn.), 8-1, on April 1 as he collected a singles victory over Alejandro Yanes, 6-1, 6-0, and he teamed with Fernando Bogajo to win in doubles, 9-7. The next day, Charters continued his winning ways as he defeated Campbellsville’s (Ky.) Pontus Blom, 7-6, 7-5, in singles. Charter and Bogajo teamed up together to defeated the No. 1 doubles team of Michael Rjazanov, and Blom, 8-4.
On April 5 against Cumberlands (Ky.), Charters won in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0, over Daryl MacLeish. Charters was victorious over Andrews Burgos, 7-6, 6-4, of Cumberland (Tenn.) on April 6. Charter capped the week off with a doubles victory over St. Catharine’s (Ky.) No. 1 doubles team, 8-4. He helped the Blue Raiders to a perfect 5-0 week.
The next men’s tennis Player of the Week will be announced on April 17.
