NAIA Menís Swimmer & Diver of the Month Ė No. 3

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Matheus Montarroyos of West Virginia Tech has been named the NAIA National Men's Swimmer & Diver of the Month, the national office announced Friday. Montarroyos was selected based on his performances in the month of February. He was chosen out of a pool of candidates nominated by NAIA men’s swimming & diving programs.

Montarroyos, a freshman from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, won the 500-Freestyle at the Appalachian Swimming Conference Championships in Christianburg, Va., on Feb. 14. He also placed in the 200-Freestyle (2nd), 800-Freestyle Relay (6th), 100-Freestyle (7th) and 400-Freestyle Relay (8th) at the event. The freshman was named the Golden Bear Star Performer of the Week (Feb. 19-26) for his efforts. On Feb. 1, Montarroyos won the 1000-Freestyle and the 500-Freestyle at a dual meet against NCAA Division II Davis & Elkins (W. Va.), while helping the team place second in the 200-Freestyle Relay.

On the season, Montarroyos owns the No. 2 time in the NAIA in the 500-Freestyle (4:38.47), the No. 5 time in the 200-Freestyle (1:42.95) and the No. 6 time in the 1000-Freestyle (10:02.58).
