Avista-NAIA World Series All-Tournament Team Announced
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Cumberland University (Tenn.) senior outfielder Kris Miller is announced as the Most Valuable Player of the 54th annual Avista-NAIA World Series. Hitting .364 (8-for-22) with four home runs and 10 RBIs in the World Series, Miller led the Bulldogs to their second World Series title with a 4-3 victory over Lee University (Tenn.) tonight at Harris Field in Lewiston, Idaho.
Miller is joined by six other Bulldogs on the all-tournament team, the most of any of the 10 participants.
JJ Costantino of Lee was pegged with the Charlie Hustle Award, while Kirk Walker of Oklahoma City was awarded the Gold Glove Award.
Other awards were dished out including the Hank Burbridge Champions of Character Team Award (Cumberland University) and the Buffalo Funds-NAIA 5-Star Champions of Character Team Award (Shorter University). Both accolades recognize the team that has best exhibited the five core character values of Respect, Responsibility, Integrity, Servant Leadership and Sportsmanship.
Robert Post, a senior pitcher from Cumberland University (Tenn.) was pegged as the Hank Burbridge Champion of Character player. This marked the sixth straight year for recognizing this award in memory of Hall of Fame Coach Hank Burbridge, who won over 1,000 games in 40 years at Spring Arbor (Mich.).
