Menís Golfer of the Week Ė No. 2

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – AIB’s (Iowa) Johnny Schwaller has been named the NAIA National Men’s Golfer of the Week, the national office announced Wednesday. Schwaller was selected based on his performances from March 19 – 25 and was chosen out of a pool of conference/independent/unaffiliated group golfer of the week selections. The honor marks the first-ever NAIA national weekly award for AIB.
Schwaller continued his stellar 2011-12 season with a medalist-winning performance at the Statesmen Spring Classic held in Moravia, Iowa, March 24 – 25. The junior from Coon Rapids, Iowa, shot a 69-68–137 to top a field that included 32 golfers from six different schools. Schwaller’s two-day score finished six strokes better than second-place Shane Goldsmith of William Penn (Iowa) and led AIB to a first-place team finish with a 295-287–582. Schwaller’s outstanding showing at the Statesmen Spring Classic was preceded by a second-place finish at the Iowa Intercollegiate Meet back on Oct. 25, 2011.
The next Men’s Golfer of the Week will be announced on April 4.
