KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Travis Strachan of Union (Ky.) has been named NAIA National Men's Swimmer & Diver of the Month for the 2012 - 2013 season, the national office announced Wednesday. Strachan was selected based on his performances in the month of January and was chosen out of a pool of candidates nominated by NAIA men's swimming & diving programs.
Strachan, the Freeport, Bahamas native, won every individual and relay events he participated in January. Strachan won the 100-meter freestyle, 200-meter freestyle and 200-meter freestyle relay on Jan. 18 against WVU Tech and Bethel (Tenn.). Six days later at Milligan (Tenn.), Strachan won three more events, the 50-meter freestyle, 100-meter butterfly and 400-meter freestyle, against Milligan and Lindsey Wilson. He capped off the month of January at home by winning four events (50-meter freestyle, 100-meter butterfly, 200-meter freestyle, and 200-meter freestyle relay) in a home meet against NCAA Division II King (Tenn.), Bethel (Tenn.) and Campbellsville (Ky.). Strachan led the Bulldogs to a 13-1 record in dual-meets this season, the best in program history.
The final Swimmer & Diver of the Month award will be announced on Feb. 20.
