KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Jenna Higgins of Mount Mercy (Iowa) has been named NAIA National Women’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week and Jasmine Sibert of College of Idaho has been tabbed as the National Women’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week, the national office announced Wednesday. Higgins and Sibert were selected based on their performances from April 22 – 28.
Higgins, a senior from Eldridge, Iowa, finished first in the javelin at the Drake (Iowa) Relays on April 26. Higgins defeated 24 athletes, a field that was nearly all NCAA Division I athletes, with a throw of 54.39 (178-5), which is the best in the NAIA.
Sibert, a junior from Boise, Idaho, defeated eight other athletes to win the heptathlon with a point total of 4,473 at the Cascade College Conference Championships on April 26. Sibert won all three running events as she clocked times of 14.79 in the 100-meter hurdles, 25.98 in the 200-meters and 2:23.25 to win the 800-meter. Her point total is fifth best in the NAIA.
