Women’s Tennis Player of the Week – No. 1

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Jade Curtis of Auburn Montgomery (Ala.) has been named the first NAIA Women's Tennis Player of the Week for the 2013 season, the national office announced Wednesday. Curtis was selected based on her performances from March 11 – 17 and was chosen out of a pool of conference/independent/unaffiliated group player of the week selections.

The junior native of Saltash, England, went 3-0 in singles and 3-0 in doubles on the week while going up against competitors from a trio of NCAA Division II teams ranked in the top 20 nationally. With victories over top singles players fromLynn (Fla.), Barry (Fla.) and Rollins (Fla.), Curtis extended her singles winning streak to 51-straight matches, while only losing four sets in the process. Against Lynn, Curtis defeated Ioana Ivan, who is ranked No. 15 in NCAA Division II, 6-4, 6-3, improving to 2-0 this season against nationally-ranked opponents. Curtis and doubles partner Tiffany Williams took the No. 1 doubles teams from all the schools. Curtis is the top ranked singles player according to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. Curtis is 12-0 in singles this year and 11-1 in doubles matches.

The next women’s tennis Player of the Week will be announced on March 27.
