KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Kristin Fulbright of Northwest Christian has been named the NAIA Women’s Soccer National Defensive Player of the Week and Jessica Martinez has been selected as the National Offensive Player of the Week, the national office announced Tuesday. Fulbright and Martinez were selected based on their performances from Sept. 30 – Oct. 6 and were chosen out of a pool of conference, independent and unaffiliated group winners.
Fulbright, a Eugene, Ore., native, made her mark in the Northwest Christian record book this past week, posting back-to-back shutouts to tie the program’s individual career record of five. The senior goalkeeper recorded a combined 17 saves in 200 minutes, including a nine-save effort to propel the Beacons to their first-ever win over Oregon Tech, 1-0, on Oct. 1. Fulbright followed that performance with eight saves in a scoreless draw at Southern Oregon, snapping Northwest Christian’s seven-game losing streak against the Raiders. On the season, Fulbright owns a 1.11 goals against average in 648:21 minutes.
Martinez, a senior forward from Williamstown, N.J., scored seven of Columbia’s 13 goals last week, including a season-high four scores in the Fighting Koalas 6-0 win against Bryan (Tenn.). Prior to her performance against Bryan, Martinez registered three goals and one assist against USCAA Warren Wilson (N.C.). She enters the week as the NAIA leader in goals (20) and points (52).
