2009-10 Division I Women's Basketball All-America Teams Announced

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics announced the 2009-10 Division I Women's Basketball All-America Teams on Tuesday. The selections are made by the NAIA Women's Basketball Coaches' Association All-America Committee and comprises a First, Second, Third and Honorable Mention Team. There are 10 members on each of the first three All-America teams.

Whitney Ballinger of Campbellsville (Ky.) and Bridgette Reyes of Vanguard (Calif.) have been named Co-Players of the Year. Ballinger was a three-time NAIA player of the week selection this season. The junior center from Carrollton, Ky., led the Lady Tigers, averaging 21.5 points and 11.6 rebounds per game, ranking fourth and third, respectively, in the nation. Campbellsville made the quarterfinals of the 2010 NAIA Division I Women's Basketball National Championship before losing to Oklahoma City, 86-77 in overtime. Ballinger was a Second Team All-America selection in the 2008-09 season.

Reyes was also a player of the week selection this season. The senior guard from Tustin, Calif., led the Lions in points (20.0) and assists per game (6.2) this season. Reyes ranked second nationally in assists per game and assist to turnover ratio (3.1). Her 20 points per game average ranks fifth nationally. Reyes and Vanguard reached the quarterfinals of the 2010 NAIA Division I Women's Basketball National Championship before falling to Lee (Tenn.), 65-60. Reyes was an Honorable Mention All-America selection in the 2008-09 season.

 

The NAIA Coach of the Year, All-Tournament Team, Tournament MVP, Team Sportsmanship Award and Hustle Award will be announced at the conclusion of the National Championship game Tuesday, which is televised live nationally on CBS College Sports Network at 9 p.m. CDT.
