Clarke, Park & SAU Jump in Poll

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – Three teams made a jump in this week’s NAIA Men’s Volleyball Top 10 poll, announced on Monday.

Park University (Mo.) moved from No. 4 to No. 3 this week, while St. Ambrose (Iowa) moved from No. 6 to No. 5 and Clarke (Iowa) moved two spots to No. 8.

The Pirates upset No. 2 ranked Grand View (Iowa) in the NAIA Game of the Week by a three set score of (25-22, 26-24, 25-22) on the Vikings home floor. They also defeated nationally ranked Clarke in three sets but ended the Grand View Tournament with a five set loss to St. Ambrose.

That win plus its perfect 10-0 mark vaulted the Fighting Bees to the No. 5 spot in the rankings. SAU went 5-0 last week with wins over St. Xavier (Ill.), Lindenwood-Belleville (Ill.), Missouri Valley, Park and Johnson and Wales (Colo.).

Clarke moved up two spots with its 3-1 week. The Crusaders are now 7-2 on the year and took down Lindenwood-Belleville in three, Johnson and Wales in three and Hannibal-LaGrange (Mo.) in three but fell to Park in three.

Concordia-Irvine (Calif.) kept its No. 1 ranking again this week and improved to 11-3 on theseason with wins over Hope International (Calif.) and Princeton University. The Eagles will now take a large break in its season and wont compete again until Feb. 19 when they face Johnson and Wales at home.

Despite its loss to Park, Grand View kept a hold of its No. 2 spot in the poll. TheVikings went 3-1 this week and improved to 10-1 on the season.

Missouri Baptist fell back a spot to No. 4 after suffering its first loss of the season to NCAA Division II Lewis University on the road in three sets (16-25, 21-25, 24-26). The Spartans took down St. Xavier last week in three sets and were scheduled to take on Dominican University in Chicago, Ill., on Saturday, Feb. 1, but due to inclement weather that match was cancelled.

Hope International moves down to No. 6 this week. The Royals only match came on the road against No. 1 Concordia in which they fell in four sets (18-25, 20-25,25-18, 26-28). They now stand at 2-2 on the year.

Warner (Fla.) kept its No. 7 spot on the year. The Royals were off last week and will next compete on Feb. 20 against Erskine College in Due West, S.C.

Missouri Valley and Cardinal Stritch (Wisc.) fell back a spot this week to No. 9 and No. 10 respectively. 

The next NAIA Top 10 Poll will be released on Monday, Feb. 10, 2014.
