KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Chase Spreen of Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) has been named the NAIA National Division I Men's Basketball Player of the Week, the national office announced Tuesday. Spreen was selected based on his performances from Jan. 9 - 15 and was chosen out of a pool of conference/independent/unaffiliated groupings.
Spreen made national attention on ESPN's SportsCenter with his 80-foot buzzer-beater against No. 5 Georgetown (Ky.) on Jan. 14. That play, which was the game-winner and sent the Blue Raiders to a 79-78 win, was chosen as No. 2 on the nightly top-10 broadcast. The 6-foot-6 senior forward finished the game with 23 points, nine rebounds and hit a career-high five 3-pointers. You can view that video here.
On Jan. 12, the native of Bedford, Ind., poured in 17 points in the 85-78 victory over Shawnee State (Ohio). Spreen chipped in five rebounds, three assists and went 7-for-12 from the floor (.583).
For the week, he averaged 20.0 points, seven rebounds, 2.5 steals and shot 58.3 percent (14-for-24) from the floor.
