KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Brad Karp of Saint Xavier (Ill.) has been named the NAIA National Division I Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, the national office announced Tuesday. Karp was selected based on his performances from Jan. 30 – Feb. 5 and was chosen out of a pool of conference/independent/unaffiliated groupings.

Karp averaged 31 points, 13 rebounds and 3.5 assists to lead the Cougars to a 1-1 week that included a 90-64 victory against St. Francis (Ill.) on Feb. 1 and a 99-96 loss to then-No. 2 Robert Morris (Ill.) on Feb. 4. His big performance came against the nationally ranked Eagles, as he posted a team-high seventh double-double of the season with a career-high 39 points and 20 rebounds. Karp finished the contest shooting 11-for-19 (57.9 percent) from the floor, including a 4-for-6 effort from beyond the arc. Additionally, he converted 13-of-15 (86.7 percent) of attempts at the free throw line. The 39-point effort marks the seventh time in his career that Karp has reached the 30-point plateau. On the week, the sophomore guard shot 67.7 percent (21-of-31) from the field and 77.8 percent (7-of-9) from 3-point range.

The native of Valparaiso, Ind., currently leads the Saint Xavier and the Chicago Collegiate Athletic Conference – third in the NAIA – in scoring with 23.9 points per game. His 8.6 rebounds per game are also a team high.
