KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Alyssa Fuentes of Davenport (Mich.) has been named the NAIA Women’s Tennis Player of the Week, the national office announced Wednesday. Fuentes was selected based on her performances from March 17-23 and was chosen out of a pool of conference, independent and unaffiliated grouping award winners.
Fuentes, a sophomore from Bridgetown, Barbados, completed a perfect week in individual and doubles matches as she led No. 25 Davenport to a pair of Top-25 upsets. The No. 1 singles player for the Panthers went 3-0 while she paired with Emily Spiech at No. 1 doubles to go undefeated in three matches. The Top 25 victories for Fuentes came against No. 20 Cardinal Stritch (Wis.) and No. 21 Marian (Ind.).
She has now won nine-straight doubles matches and six in-a-row in the singles format. Davenport has won its last nine matches as a team.
