Player of the Week No. 4

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Loic Didavi of Xavier (La.) has been named NAIA Men's Tennis Player of the Week, the national office announced Wednesday. Didavi was selected based on his performances from April 2 – 8 and was chosen out of a pool of conference/independent/unaffiliated group player of the week selections. The honor is the second such award for Xavier men’s tennis with the last honor coming on May 4, 2011, when Zach Taylor was named Player of the Week.

Didavi, ranked as the No. 11 singles player in the NAIA by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA), nearly ran the table against a quartet of highly-ranked singles foes. He began the week with a 6-2, 2-6, 6-2 win over No. 7 Point Loma Nazarene’s (Calif.) 19th-rated Tyler Bowman on April 2 as the No. 9 Gold Rush edged Point Loma Nazarene, 5-4. The junior from Cotonou, Benin, followed it up with a 6-4, 6-3 triumph over No. 5 Bryan Cox of eighth-ranked Westmont (Calif.) on April 3 and a 6-3, 1-0, retired victory over No. 9 Lucas Pereira of seventh-ranked Vanguard (Calif.) on April 5. His only loss on the week came against 10th-ranked Concordia’s (Calif.) No. 13 Bruno Santarelli, 6-3, 2-6, 6-2, on April 4.

In doubles play, Didavi and teammate Zach Taylor, the No. 3 doubles team according to the ITA, went 2-2 with wins over Point Loma Nazarene’s 12th-ranked pair of Tyler Bowman and Greg de Andrade, 8-5, and over Westmont’s 2nd-ranked combo of Bryan Cox and Rodrigo Schaefer, 9-8.

Didavi is now 21-5 in singles action this season and 21-6 in doubles.

The next men’s tennis Player of the Week will be announced on April 18.
