KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Heather Shake of Houston-Victoria (Texas) has been named the NAIA Women’s Golfer of the Week, the national office announced Wednesday. Shake was selected based on her performance from March 10-16 and was chosen out of a pool of conference, independent and unaffiliated grouping award winners.
Shake, a freshman from Pearland, Texas, won the Loyola-New Orleans (La.) Spring Invitational by five strokes after carding rounds of 74 and 73. Shake secured her first event victory, in just her second collegiate tournament, after the invitational’s final round was cancelled due to inclement weather. The freshman also placed fourth in her first collegiate event, the Claud Jacobs Collegiate Invitational at Houston-Victoria back on Feb. 17.
Shake is the first of seven Women’s Golfers of the Week for the 2014 season. For the complete Women’s Golfer of the Week calendar, click here.
