2014 NAIA Menís Tennis Player of the Week Ė No. 6

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Joan-Marc Fajula Rodriguez of McPherson (Kan.) has been named the NAIA Men’s Tennis Player of the Week, the national office announced Wednesday. Fajula Rodriguez was selected based on his performances from April 14-20 and was chosen out of a pool of conference, independent and unaffiliated group award winners.
Fajula Rodriguez, a freshman from Olot, Spain, helped McPherson (Kan.) to a 4-0 week with dominant wins over Kansas Wesleyan (9-0), Ottawa (Kan.) (8-1), Central Christian (Kan.) (9-0) and Southwestern (Kan.) (9-0). Fajula Rodriguez went 2-0 at No. 2 singles, defeating Dylon Neal of Central Christian (6-4, 6-3) and Jordan Tompkins of Southwestern (6-0, 6-0). The freshman also stepped up at No. 1 singles, going 2-0 by besting Leo Mendez of Kansas Wesleyan (6-1, 6-0) and fellow freshman Matthew Barlow of Ottawa (6-1, 7-6). Fajula Rodriguez and partner Rafael Bulnes went 4-0 on the week at No. 1 doubles, cruising to wins over the top duos from Kansas Wesleyan (8-0), Ottawa (8-0), Central Christian (8-2) and Southwestern (8-1). Fajula Rodriguez and Bulnes are currently ranked as the No. 13 doubles tandem in the NAIA by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA).
On the year, Fajula Rodriguez boasts a 15-4 record in both singles and doubles.
