KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Remontay McClain of Azusa Pacific (Calif.) has been honored as the NAIA National Men's Outdoor Track Athlete of The Week and Nate Moses of Concordia (Ore.) has been named the NAIA National Men's Outdoor Field Athlete of The Week, the national office announced Wednesday. McClain and Moses were selected based on their performances from April 23 - 29 and are the final awards of 2012. Moses earns his second such honor this year, having been named on March 28.
McClain, a freshman from Victorville, Calif., dominated a pair of events to help lead Azusa Pacific to the 2012 Golden State Athletic Conference (GSAC) Men's Track & Field Championship title. On April 28, he took medalist honors by winning the 100-meter (10.33) and 200-meter dashes (21.37). He also ran the anchor leg of the conference championship 4x100 relay team in a time of 41.62. He won the 100-meters by a comfortable margin of almost three-quarters of a second.
Moses, a junior from Fresno, Calif., set a Concordia discus record held by a two-time NAIA national champion. At the NCAA Division III Pacific (Ore.) Twilight on April 28, he unleashed a toss of 192-7 to win the discipline in stadium and meet-record fashion. Moses added exactly two feet to the school record previously held by Nik Kay and crushed the stadium and meet records by more than 20 feet. Moses now holds an 18-foot lead over the next NAIA athlete on the season performance list. Only 18 United States discus throwers have thrown farther than Moses in 2012 according to the USA Track & Field Association. He also set a personal season best in the shot put with a 53-7 mark which ranks No. 10 on the NAIA performance list. In his third event (hammer throw), Moses finished seventh out of 32 with a distance of 167-3.
