2008 NAIA Women's Soccer National Players of the Week Announced - #10
Nov. 11, 2008
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The 2008 NAIA Women’s Soccer National Players of the Week have been released for the 10th time this season. Jessica Burden of Tabor (Kan.) College is honored as the NAIA Offensive Player of the Week while Nikki Grant of St. Xavier (Ill.) University is selected as the NAIA Defensive Player of the Week, for the week of Nov. 3-9. These winners were chosen out of a pool of conference player of the week performers among 22 conferences, independents and unaffiliateds.
Burden, a 5-6, junior forward from Little Elm, Texas went for seven goals and 15 points in two wins for Tabor last week. In the 4-0 win over Friends (Kan.), Jessica recorded three goals. She followed that up with a hat trick and one assist in the 5-0 win over Bethany (Kan.). She has helped turn around the Bluejays season from a winless campaign in 2007 to eight wins and a spot in the KCAC Semifinals this year.
Grant, a 5-8 senior goalkeeper from Lemont, Ill., came on to the soccer scene recently and provided some clutch goalkeeping efforts last week. Taking over for injured net-minder Danielle Wagner, Nikki earned the 4-2 win over No. 8 and previously undefeated Trinity Christian (Ill.) in the CCAC Tournament. She posted 10 saves in 90 minutes to help the Cougars advance to the league championship on Saturday (Nov. 8). In that title match, she recorded four saves in the 1-0 shut-out win over Trinity International to notch her second blanking of the year.
This announcement is the final Player of the Week honors for the 2008 season.
