KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The final edition of the 2009 NAIA National Women’s Soccer Players of the Week were announced on Tuesday: Renee Rudder of Avila (Mo.) was named NAIA Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week and Andi Wilhoit of Georgetown (Ky.) was named NAIA Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, for the week of Nov. 2 – 8. These winners were chosen out of a pool of conference player of the week performers among 23 conferences and independents.
Rudder, a 5-6, freshman goalkeeper from Brisbane, Australia, stopped 15 shots to lead Avila to a 1-0 shutout win over No. 18 William Jewell (Mo.) on Nov. 3. Rudder’s 15 saves came off of 29 William Jewell shots. The victory gives the Eagles a spot in the Heart of America Athletic Conference playoffs and their first win over William Jewell in program history. Rudder ranks 22nd nationally in total saves with 113 and is ranked in the top 50 in saves per game with 6.28.
Wilhoit, a 5-3 midfielder from Versailles, Ky., recorded six goals and two assists for a total of 14 points last week. The senior tallied two goals and an assist in a 5-1 victory over Campbellsville (Ky.) and followed up with a hat trick, three goals and one assist, in a 7-0 shutout of St. Catharine (Ky.). Wilhoit capped off her busy week with one more goal as Georgetown defeated St. Catharine, 7-1, in the Mid-South Conference tournament play-in match. Wilhoit ranks 28th nationally in total points with 38 and 35th in total goals with 15.
