KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Adella King of Indiana Tech has been named the NAIA National Women's Outdoor Track Athlete of The Week and teammate Stacia Murray has been honored as the NAIA National Women's Outdoor Field Athlete of The Week, the national office announced Wednesday. King and Murray were selected based on their performances from March 12 - 18.
King, a junior from Detroit, Mich., captured two first-place finishes and was part of a fifth-place 4x100 relay squad at the Wake Forest (N.C.) Open on March 16. She set a school record with a clocking of 11.70 in the 100-meter dash, breaking Katelyn Lewis' school best. She beat out 79 other athletes in the event. In the 200-meters, she picked up another top finish, defeating128 other athletes with a time of 23.82. Her closest competitor, Francena McCorory, ran unattached and was an All-American and NCAA indoor record holder in the 400 meters. Also, the 46.13 mark in the 4x100 relay marks the best time in the NAIA this season. She collected three "A" standards on Saturday.
Murray, a sophomore from Fort Wayne, Ind., also set a school standard in the triple jump. Her distance of 38' 3 ¼" is the best in Indiana Tech history and ended up the sixth-longest mark at the Wake Forest Open. That finish established an "A" standard in the event and she currently ranks first in the NAIA in the triple jump.
