KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Chris Solomon of Northwood (Fla.) has been named the NAIA National Division II Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, the national office announced Tuesday. Solomon was selected based on his performances from Jan. 27 – Feb. 2 and was chosen out of a pool of conference and independent award winners.
Solomon, a 6-foot-3 native of Los Angeles, Calif., shot 50.0 percent (11-of-22) from the field and 93.3 percent (28-for-30) at the free throw line en route to averaging 28.0 points per game last week in a pair of Northwood victories. The junior guard’s highlight performance came in the Seahawks’ 76-71 win against then-No. 3 Embry-Riddle (Fla.) on Jan. 29. Solomon led all scorers with 27 points, including 12 points at the free throw line, along with four rebounds, one assist and one steal. Three days later, Solomon netted 29 points and was 16-for-18 (93.3 percent) at the charity stripe against Johnson & Wales (Fla.).
On the season, Solomon has recorded double figures in 20-of-22 games en route to a 21.7 points per game average. He ranks among the top 10 nationally in 3-point field goals made per game (4th; 3.5) and total 3-point field goals made (6th; 78).
