KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Jura Levy of Oklahoma Baptist has been named NAIA National Women’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week and Katie Thurbon has been tabbed as the NAIA National Women’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week, the national office announced Wednesday. Levy and Thurbon were selected based on their performances from Jan. 16 – 22. This week’s announcement marks the second-straight Indoor Track Athlete of the Week for Oklahoma Baptist following Verone Chambers’ honor one week ago.

Levy, a junior from Kingston, Jamaica, set new season NAIA top times and placed first in all three events she ran at the Iowa State Open in Ames, Iowa, on Jan. 21. Up against several NCAA Division I competitors, her 60-meter dash clocked in at 7.38 and topped a field of 46 runners and her time of 24.14 in the 200-meter dash bested a total of 65 participants. Levy was also part of the Lady Bison 4x400-relay team that took first place with a time of 3:42.09.

Thurban, a sophomore and native of Topeka, Kan., broke a personal and school record in the pole vault at the Nebraska Wesleyan Invite on Jan. 20. Her mark of 12’ 1 ½” put her in second place at the event and tied Kellie Fegter of Concordia (Neb.) and Evan Shimanek of Oklahoma Baptist for the top pole vault in the NAIA this season.

The next Athletes of the Week will be announced on Feb. 1.
