KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Simon Felix of Embry-Riddle (Fla.) has been named the first NAIA Men's Tennis Player of the Week for the 2012 season, the national office announced Wednesday. Felix was selected based on his performances from March 12 – 18 and was chosen out of a pool of conference/independent/unaffiliated group player of the week selections.
The sophomore native of Geneva, Switzerland, claimed a pair of victories each in the No. 3 singles and No. 3 doubles categories on the week. Felix, ranked as the No. 14 singles player in the NAIA by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, posted a 6-1, 6-1 win over Kacper Buborykin of NCAA Division II Midwestern State on March 12 and then a 6-0, 6-0 domination of Ali Shabib of NCAA Division I Cleveland State on March 15.
The NAIA’s 22nd-ranked doubles pair of Felix and Peter Francis notched an 8-2 win over Jay Henton and Luke Joyce of Midwestern State before an 8-6 triumph over Matt Kuelker and Jorg Van Der Vloet of Cleveland State. The No. 2 Eagles rolled to a 9-0 victory over Midwestern State and a 7-0 shutout of Cleveland State.
The next men’s tennis Player of the Week will be announced on March 28.
