KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Akela Jones of Oklahoma Baptist has been named NAIA National Women's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week and Julie Oosterhouse of Cornerstone (Mich.) has been tabbed as the NAIA National Women's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week, the national office announced Wednesday. Jones and Oosterhouse were selected based on their performances from Feb. 4 - 10.
Jones, a freshman from Barbados, is the second different Bison to win this award in 2013, joining Jura Levy. Jones broke school records and hit the No. 1 NAIA national marks this year in both the high jump and long jump at the Oklahoma Baptist Bison Invitational on Feb. 9. Her leap of 1.78 meters (5-10) in the high jump and mark of 6.23 meters (20-5 ¼) in the long jump won first-place honors. The event was her first participation of the 2013 season.

In the 800-meters, her time of 2:12.95 broke her own school record set last season and moved her to fourth on the NAIA performance list - she took sixth overall against 27 other competitors. Oosterhouse finished the 600-meter run in 1:36.87 to place fifth overall. She contributed in the 800-meter leg of the distance medley relay that took 11th overall (12:20.99) and now currently sits No. 2 nationally. Oosterhouse ended the meet running the second leg on the 4x400 relay (3:58.80), which was good for seventh overall.
