KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Morgan Matchett of Wayland Baptist (Texas) has been named NAIA National Women’s Golfer of the Week, the national office announced Wednesday. Matchett was selected based on her performances from March 25 – 31 and was chosen out of a pool of conference/independent/unaffiliated group golfer of the week selections.
Matchett, a sophomore from Miramichi, New Brunswick, defeated 146 golfers en route to a five-stroke victory at the Battle of Primm in Primm, Nev., hosted by Grand View (Iowa) on March 25-26. She also led the Pioneers to a second place team finish, one stroke behind winner Cal State San Marcos. Matchett recorded rounds of 68-74 – 142. The 68 that Matchett shot tied the lowest round in Wayland Baptist history. She was the only player to finish the event under par.
The next Women’s Golfer of the Week will be announced on April 10.
