KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Livia Blasque of Lewis-Clark State (Idaho) has been named NAIA Women's Tennis Player of the Week, the national office announced Wednesday. Blasque was selected based on her performances from April 1 – 7 and was chosen out of a pool of conference/independent/unaffiliated group player of the week selections.
The sophomore native of Andradina, Brazil, went 5-0 in singles and 4-1 in doubles on the week and helped the Warriors take down three ranked teams. On April 1, Blasque defeated Nina Pudar in No. 2 singles, 6-4, 6-4, helping Lewis-Clark State to a 6-3 victory over No. 11 Vanguard (Calif.). The next day, she defeated the No. 2 singles player of Westmont (Calif.), 6-3, 6-4.
On April 4 against Arizona Christian, Blasque played No. 1 singles and was victorious over Brianna Lopez by a score of 6-0, 6-0. Blasque helped the Warriors defeat its third ranked team in a week by defeating Concordia’s (Calif.) No. 2 singles player, 6-3, 6-4, on April 5. The next day she returned to the court in the No. 1 singles slot and defeated Biola’s (Calif.) Kathryn Ashford, 6-2, 6-1.
The next women’s tennis Player of the Week will be announced on April 17.
