KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Marco Carvajal of Oklahoma Baptist has been named NAIA National Men's Tennis Player of the Week, the national office announced Wednesday. Carvajal was selected based on his performances from April 8 – 14 and was chosen out of a pool of conference/independent/unaffiliated group player of the week selections.
Carvajal, a sophomore from Mallorca, Spain, was 6-0 last week, including a 3-0 record in No. 1 singles and 3-0 mark in No. 1 doubles. Carvajal helped the Bison down NCAA Division I Oral Roberts (Okla.), 5-2, on April 12. Against Oral Roberts, Carvajal was victorious in No. 1 singles, 7-6, 6-2. He teamed with Dario Macanovic to defeat the No. 1 doubles team of Oral Roberts, 8-5.
The next day, Carvajal helped the Bison to two, 9-0, victories over NCAA Division III opponents, Austin (Texas) and Westminster (Mo.). Carvajal defeated the Austin’s No. 1 singles player, 6-3, 6-0. Carvajal and Macanovic teamed together in doubles to defeat the No. 1 doubles team of Austin, 8-1. Carvajal and Macanovic continued to roll in doubles action against Westminster winning, 8-5. Carvajal capped his week off against Westminster’s Tony Stephenson with a, 6-3, 6-3, win.
For the year Carvajal is 15-4 in singles action and 11-8 in doubles.
The next men’s tennis Player of the Week will be announced on April 24.
