KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Rhianne Parsons of Cumberland (Tenn.) has been named the NAIA Women’s Soccer National Offensive Player of the Week and Lauren Terry of Vanguard (Calif.) has been selected as the National Defensive Player of the Week, the national office announced Tuesday. Parsons and Terry were selected based on their performances from Oct. 14 – 20 and were chosen out of a pool of conference, independent and unaffiliated group winners.
Parsons, a Tavostock, England, native, helped Cumberland extend its unbeaten streak to 11 matches and claim sole possession of first-place in the Mid-South Conference standings with three goals and two assists in the Bulldogs three contests last week. The senior forward netted the game-winner in the 88th minute of a 1-0 victory against then-No. 1 Lindsey Wilson (Ky.), who had previously never lost a conference match dating back to 2000, on Oct. 16 to open the week. Two days later against Georgetown (Ky.), Parsons assisted on Cumberland’s first goal and then netted the Bulldogs’ third goal in the 4-1 win. She repeated the one goal and one assist performance in Cumberland’s final match of the week against Rio Grande (Ohio) on Oct. 20. On the season, Parsons ranks second on the club with 10 goals and 26 points.
Terry, a goalkeeper from Corona, Calif., recorded back-to-back shutouts for the first time this season, giving her five on the year and 19 for her career. The senior opened the week with six saves in 110 minutes to blank then-No. 15 The Master’s (Calif.), 1-0, on Oct. 16. Terry added another nine saves, upping her total to 15 for the week, in 90 minutes against then-No. 23 Biola (Calif.). She has started all 13 matches in goal this season for the Lions and boasts a 0.76 goal against average in 1,066:38 minutes of action. The honor is the second time in Terry’s career – the first coming on Oct. 16, 2012 – that she has received the national defensive weekly award.
