KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Caitlyn McCutcheon of Concordia (Ore.) has been named the NAIA National Division II Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, the national office announced Tuesday. McCutcheon was selected based on her performances from Jan. 27 – Feb. 2 and was chosen out of a pool of conference and independent award winners.
McCutcheon, a Portland, Ore., native, averaged 23 points and 11 rebounds for the week to lead the Cavaliers to a pair of Cascade Collegiate Conference victories. Against a College of Idaho squad that was receiving votes in the latest Coaches’ Top 25 Poll, McCutcheon registered a game-high 22 points and eight rebounds to lead Concordia to a 79-77 win. Twenty-four hours later, the junior center recorded her seventh double-double of the year with 24 points and 14 rebounds in an 85-78 win at then-No. 16 Eastern Oregon. For the week, McCutcheon shot 81.8 percent (18-of-22) from the field and 83.3 percent (10-for-12) at the free throw line.
On the season, McCutcheon leads the team in scoring (12.5), rebounding (9.2) and blocked shots (25). She enters the week ranked 15th in the NAIA in offensive rebounds per game (4.0).
