KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Jake Ekster of Missouri Valley has been named the NAIA National Wrestler of the Week, the national office announced Wednesday. Ekster was selected based on his performance from Feb. 10 – 16 and was chosen out of a pool of nominees from the four Qualifying Groups.
Ekster, a native of Houston, Texas, defeated sixth-ranked Ryan Maus of NCAA Division II Truman State (Mo.), 3-1, to help Missouri Valley to a 31-17 victory in the dual event. With the win, the 149-pound junior improved to 17-2 on the year. On the season, Ekster ranks seventh in the NAIA at 149 pounds in pins (6), while also ranking eighth nationally in his weight class at total team points scored (80).
