NAIA Menís Soccer Players of the Week Ė No. 1 (Sept. 9)

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Conor Cable of William Woods (Mo.) has been selected as the NAIA Men’s Soccer National Defensive Player of the Week and Dzenan Catic of Davenport (Mich.) has been named the NAIA Men’s Soccer National Offensive Player of the Week, the national office announced Tuesday. Cable and Catic are the first recipients of the 2014 season. They were selected based on their performances from Sept. 1 – 7 and were chosen out of a pool of conference player of the week selections.

National Defensive Player of the Week
Conor Cable, William Woods (Mo.)
Fr., GK, Spalding, England

• Was a major factor in the Owls’ 3-0 week, with shutout wins over Culver-Stockton (Mo.) on Sept. 2 (3-0); against Ottawa (Kan.) on Sept. 4 (5-0) and versus John Brown (Ark.) on Sept. 5 (1-0).
• Collected 18 total saves in the three matches, including a week-best eight in the victory over John Brown.
• On the year, Cable stands 3-0-1 with a 0.220 goals against average – the average is good for 14th in the NAIA.
• The total amount of shutouts last week (3) equals the total amount set during the 2013 season when the Owls went 11-9-0.
• Earns first career NAIA National Player of the Week honor.

National Offensive Player of the Week

• Helped lead the Panthers to three wins last week, including a 4-3 victory over No. 2 Auburn Montgomery (Ala.) on Sept. 1 and a 3-1 triumph over No. 4 Ashford (Iowa) on Sept. 5.
• Posted weekly totals of five goals, two assists and 12 points.
• Accomplished his third career hat-trick in 5-1 win over Mobile (Ala.) on Sept. 6 – with all of the markers coming in the first half.
• Now stands with nine multi-goal career matches in the start of his second year of action as a Panther.
• On the year, Catic has tallied six goals, which ranks No. 3 in the NAIA, 14 points, good for No. 4 in the nation and two assists.
• Earns first career NAIA National Player of the Week honor.
