KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Benard Keter of Wayland Baptist (Texas) has been named the NAIA Men’s Cross Country National Runner of the Week, the national office announced Wednesday. Keter was chosen for his performance during the week of Oct. 20-26 and was selected out of a pool of conference and association of independent institutions award winners.

Keter, a sophomore from Nakuru, Kenya, led the Pioneers’ attack at the Mid-States Classic on Oct. 25 with a first-place in the 215-runner event in Winfield, Kan. The win was the third of the season for Keter.

He finished the 8-kilometer race in 24:15, and finished in front of second-place by almost 30 seconds.

This is Keter’s second award of the 2014 season. The stalwart of the Pioneers’ squad gets ready for the Sooner Athletic Conference Championships on Nov. 8 in Shawnee, Okla.
