BILLINGS, Mont. – [BOX SCORE] Second-seeded Central Methodist (Mo.) weathered
Arizona Christian was red-hot in the game’s opening quarter, outscoring the Eagles 12-2 in the first four minutes. Firestorm junior guard Courtney Christmas score eight points in the run. Arizona Christian led by 10 after one quarter 26-16.
Central Methodist opened the second quarter with an 11-3 run to trim the Firestorm lead to two at 29-27.
The Eagles took their first lead of the game when Tashawna Edwards scored her only points of the game with a two-point basket with just over two minutes left in the second quarter. Central Methodist held on to that slim advantage and led 45-43 at the halftime break.
The Eagles expanded their halftime lead to 71-59 after three quarters. Arizona Christian found a bit of fourth-quarter offense but not enough to overcome the Central Methodist lead.
Christmas led the Firestorm with 24 points followed by Maykayla Enders and Jac Moody with 15 points each. The Arizona Christian season ends at 20-9.
DaJonee Hale led Central Methodist with 30 points including 18 in the second half. Ana Borges had 28 with 16 coming in the second half. The Eagles outrebounded Arizona Christian 48-34.
Central Methodist plays Friday at 2:15 p.m. against the winner of the game between three-seed Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) and six-seed Martin Methodist (Tenn.).
