KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Will Monsour of Belhaven (Miss.) has been named the NAIA National Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week and Milco Risteski of Robert Morris (Ill.) has been tabbed National Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week, the national office announced Tuesday. Monsour and Risteski were selected based on their performances from Sept. 10 - 16 and were chosen out of a pool of conference/independent/unaffiliated groupings.
Monsour, a 6-foot junior forward from Shreveport, La., notched his second weekly award this year thanks to superb skills against nationally-recognized opponents. On Sept. 14 against "receiving votes" Embry-Riddle (Fla.), Monsour posted a pair of goals in the 3-0 victory. One night later, he recorded his NAIA-leading sixth game-winner to hand the Blazers a 3-2 win over No. 15 Texas at Brownsville in the NAIA Game of the Week.
On the week, Monsour had three goals and an assist for seven points. In NAIA statistical rankings, he leads the country in goals (13) and points (30).
Risteski, a 6-foot senior goalkeeper from Palatine, Ill., posted five saves in the shutout victory over No. 7 Bethel (Tenn.) in overtime on Sept. 14. The shutout was the third of the year and kept the No. 20-ranked Eagles unbeaten with a 5-0-1 record.
In national statistics, he is in the top 50 in goals against per game (0.950) and saves per game (5.20).
