KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Jordan Green of Hastings (Neb.) has been named the NAIA National Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week and Vignir Johannesson of Auburn Montgomery (Ala.) has been tabbed National Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week, the national office announced Tuesday. Green and Johannesson were selected based on their performances from Oct. 8 - 14 and were chosen out of a pool of conference/independent/unaffiliated groupings.
Green, a 6-foot-1 senior forward from Lincoln, Neb., posted 13 points in two Great Plains Athletic Conference victories last week. His four-goal effort in the 9-0 victory against Briar Cliff (Iowa) on Oct. 13 tied the school's single-game record for goals. Green also added an assist in the contest. The last time a Bronco put in four goals was in 2000. Prior to that match, Green finished with a pair of markers in the 2-0 triumph over Doane (Neb.) on Oct. 10.
Among the national statistical leaders, Green is second in points (44), third in goals (17) and fifth in assists (10).
Johannesson, a 6-foot-2 junior goalkeeper from Kopavogur, Iceland, added two more wins to his record in goal last week. He totaled 192 minutes and had six saves in two matches. In the 3-2 double-overtime road win at Lee (Tenn.) on Oct. 11, Johannesson stopped three shots on goal. In the NAIA Game of the Week on Oct. 13, he also tallied three saves in the 2-1 victory against No. 10 Southern Poly (Ga.).
On the year, Johannesson stands at 10-2-1 and ranks 26th in the NAIA in goals against average (0.970).
