KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Jeremy Rodgers of Martin Methodist (Tenn.) has been named the NAIA National Division I Men's Basketball Player of the Week, the national office announced Tuesday. Rodgers was selected based on his performances from Jan. 21 - 27 and was chosen out of a pool of conference/independent/unaffiliated groupings.
Rodgers, a 6-foot-5 senior forward from Memphis, Tenn., lifted Martin Methodist to two wins last week with his averages of 24.5 points, 11.0 rebounds, 2.0 blocks and 2.5 steals. He shot 68 percent (22-of-32) from the field during those two TranSouth Athletic Conference victories.
He posted a career-high 27 points in the 84-71 victory over Mid-Continent (Ky.) Jan. 24. On Jan. 26, Rodgers pulled down a personal-best 14 rebounds to go along with 22 points in a 69-53 win over Life (Ga.). He also finished his night with a career-high four blocks and four steals. That scoring effort put him over 10 points in three of his last four contests.
On the season, he ranks first on the club in rebounding (6.9 rpg) and third in scoring (12.4 ppg).
