KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Anthony Marchesani of Oklahoma City has been named the NAIA National Men’s Golfer of the Week, the national office announced Wednesday. Marchesani, the first golfer from Oklahoma City to win the award since its inception in 2011, was selected based on his performances from March 25 – 31 and was chosen out of a pool of conference/independent/unaffiliated group golfer of the week selections.
Marchesani, a native of Rosebud, Victoria, Australia, earned his first career individual medal at the Battle at the Primm at Primm Valley Golf Course in Primm, Nev., March 25 – 26. The freshman carded an 11-under 205 total that included 15 birdies and single-round scores of 66-67-72. Marchesani finished two shots ahead of the second-place finisher to top a field that consisted of 90 golfers from 17 teams. His performance led Oklahoma City to a team score of 288-283-291 – 862, good for fourth overall.
Marchesani, who currently ranks fifth in the NAIA in total birdies (73), also posted top-five finishes at the Claude Jacobs Collegiate Invite in Victoria, Texas, on Feb. 17-18 and the U.C. Ferguson Classic in Oklahoma City, Okla., on Sept. 17-18.
