KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Kaitlin Floerchinger of Northwestern (Iowa) has been named the NAIA Volleyball National Player of the Week, the national office announced Tuesday. Floerchinger, who is the first weekly award recipient for the 2013 season, was selected based on her performances from Sept. 2 - 8 and was chosen out of a pool of conference player of the week selections among 23 conferences and independents.
Floerchinger, a 6-foot-1 junior outside hitter from Treynor, Iowa, helped the Red Raiders to a 5-0 week, including two wins over top-15 opponents. She averaged 4.2 kills per set, 3.6 digs per set and posted weekly totals of 14 service aces, eight blocks and a .266 hitting percentage. In the 3-2 win (24-26, 25-20, 22-25, 25-22, 15-8) over No. 5 Oklahoma Baptist on Sept. 6, Floerchinger slammed a career-best 22 kills to go along with a week-high 21 digs. The following day, she poured in 18 kills and 17 digs in the 3-1 victory (25-22, 25-21, 21-25, 25-17) over No. 13 Bellevue (Neb.). In national statistics, she ranks seventh in service aces per set (.850) and 12th in kills per set (4.1).
