KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Josip Druzijanic of Mount Mercy (Iowa) has been named the NAIA Men's Soccer National Offensive Player of the Week and Lewis Wilcox of Midland (Neb.) has been selected as the NAIA Men's Soccer National Defensive Player of the Week, the national office announced Tuesday. Druzijanic and Wilcox were chosen for their performances during the week of Sept. 30 – Oct. 6 and were selected out of a pool of conference, independent, and unaffiliated grouping award winners.
Druzijanic, a senior forward from Split, Croatia, set a school record with five goals in Mount Mercy’s 6-0 blowout victory over Culver-Stockton (Mo.). The five-goal performance brings Druzijanic’s total to 14 goals on the year and 25 for his career as a Mustang. For the season, Druzijanic leads the Mustangs in goals (14) and points (29). He also ranks among the top 25 nationally in total goals (6th, 14), goals per game (8th, 1.27), total points (10th, 29), points per game (11th, 2.64), shots on goal per game (14th, 2.73) and total game-winning goals (17th, 3).
Wilcox, a junior goaltender from Cardiff, Wales, made 14 saves to record a pair of shutouts for the Warriors last week. The shutouts—in 2-0 wins over No. 6 Hastings (Neb.) and Morningside (Iowa)—give Wilcox nine unblemished performances in 12 appearances this season. He has allowed just eight goals in 1089 minutes in net for the Warriors and currently ranks among the NAIA leaders in goals against per game (12th, .66), total saves (16th, 61) and saves per game (46th, 5.08).
