NAIA Football Players of the Week No. 5

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Chris Allen of Friends (Kan.), Vince Folston of Southwestern (Kan.) and Eric Walker of Southwestern (Kan.) have been named the NAIA Football National Players of the Week, the national office announced Monday. Allen, Folston and Walker were chosen for their performances during the week of Sept. 29 – Oct. 5 and were selected out of a pool of conference and independent award winners.

National Offensive Player of the Week
Chris Allen, Friends (Kan.)
Sr., WR, McKinney, Texas

• Caught eight passes for a season-high 272 yards and five touchdowns in Friends’ 53-14 win against Kansas Wesleyan on Oct. 4.
• His five touchdown receptions, including a 96-yard score late in the third quarter, ties the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference’s single-game record.
• Ran for 38 yards on one carry.
• Allen owns four 100-plus receiving yard performances on the season, including two performances of more than 200 yards
• Ranks among the top two nationally in scoring (78), receiving yards per game (163.4) and total receiving yards (817).
• First career National Offensive Player of the Week award. Wide receiver
• Last player from Friends to earn National Player of the Week honors: Marcus Carter (defensive) (Sept. 24, 2012)

National Special Teams Player of the Week
Vince Folston, Southwestern (Kan.)
Sr., WR, Lake City, Fla.

• Blocked back-to-back second-quarter field goals in Southwestern’s 27-6 win against then-No. 3 Tabor (Kan.).
• First career National Special Teams Player of the Week award.
• Last player from Southwestern to earn National Player of the Week honors: Chris Mayer (special teams) (Nov. 4, 2013).

National Defensive Player of the Week
Eric Walker, Southwestern (Kan.)
Jr., LB, Ashburn, Ga.

• Keyed a Moundbuilder defense that limited then-No. 3 Tabor (Kan.) to 171 yards of total offense en route to a 27-6 win.
• Recorded 17 tackles, including 10 solo stops and four tackles for loss.
• Two of Walker’s solo tackles came on third downs that forced the Bluejays to punt.
• First career National Defensive Player of the Week award.
• Last player from Southwestern to earn National Player of the Week honors: Chris Mayer (special teams) (Nov. 4, 2013).
