2016 Menís Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week Ė No. 6 (Feb. 24)

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Kale Wolken of Doane (Neb.) has been selected as the NAIA National Men’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week and DeShawn Woods of Indiana Tech has been named NAIA National Men’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week, the national office announced Wednesday. Wolken and Woods were selected based on their performances from Feb. 15 – 21.

Men’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week:
Kale Wolken, Doane (Neb.)
Sr., Tecumseh, Neb.

• Recorded three first-place finishes, a third-place finish and a fourth place finish at the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Championships on Feb. 20.
• Finished first among 14 athletes in the heptathlon with 5134 points and currently leads the NAIA in the event.
• The 2016 GPAC Male Athlete of the Year turned in a first-place time of 8.43 in the prelims of the 60-meter hurdles and 8.42 in the finals of the 60-meter hurdles.
• He took third-place in the long jump with a distance of 7.04 meters (23-1 ¼ feet) and fourth-place in the pole vault with a vault of 4.80 meters (15-9 feet).
• This is his fourth career National Indoor Track & Field Athlete of the Week award – Feb. 26, 2014, Feb. 4 2015 and Feb. 25, 2015.

Men’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week:
DeShawn Woods, Indiana Tech
Jr., Norfolk, Va.

• Logged two first-place finishes, one second-place finish and one fourth-place finish at the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) Championships on Feb. 20.
• Ran a career-best 8.18 in the finals of the 60-meter hurdles to finish second in the event.
• Finished first out of 20 athletes in the 400-meter run with a time of 48.17. This time is the third fastest time in the NAIA.
• Ran the third leg of the 4X400-meter relay team that took first (3:17.23).
• Took home MVP honors from the WHAC Championships.
• This is his first career National Indoor Track & Field Athlete of the Week award.
